Tide Times

Experience the highest tides in the world!

Twice daily, approximately 160 billion tonnes of seawater flow into and out of the Bay of Fundy – that’s more than the flow of all the world’s freshwater rivers combined during the same 6-hour interval!

The vertical tidal range can be over 16 metres and the horizontal range can be as much as 5 kilometres.

Within a 24-hour period the Bay of Fundy experiences two high tides and two low tides. On average the time span between tides is approximately six hours. Tide times move ahead approximately one hour each day.

Visitors can expect to see at least one high tide and one low tide during daylight hours.

The Bay of Fundy tidal currents are fast. At peak surface speed, tides exceed 10 knots.  When exploring the ocean floor at low tide, it is best practice to ensure you are safely back on the beach (above the high-water mark) 2.5 - 3 hours before the next scheduled high tide time.

Visit the Fundy Geological Museum to learn about the world’s highest tides!
