Geological Program Development Officer (student)

Position Start date: May 28, 2019 (flexible)

Position Duration: 8 weeks from start date

Hourly wage (40 Hour work week): $12.50

Position Summary: Depending on funding availability, The Geological Program Development Officer will work under the direction of the Coordinator of Public Programs with support from the Coordinator of Visitor Services.  The role will include beach tours, museum tours, on-site activities with groups varying in age, demographic, and education level. Content-based programs that are deliverable by existing and future employees and volunteers, will be developed with the guidance of the Coordinator of Public Programs and the Director/Curator. The Fundy Geological Museum is celebrating it’s 25th Anniversary and this position will also be asked to take part in developing and delivering programs as it pertains to the history of Nova Scotia. Occasional support of Front Desk responsibilities will be required, and the successful candidate will work a designated number of weekends.

Required qualifications: Students must be enrolled in Grade 11-12 or a post-secondary education program for Fall 2019; Fluent in written and spoken English.

Preferred qualifications: Completion of relevant certifications, i.e. Super Host and Interpretation Canada Certificates; Valid First Aid/CPR Certification and WHMIS; Training and/or experience in interpretation or public speaking; Completion of Criminal Record Search and Child Abuse Registry (after recruitment); Valid Driver’s license; Fluent in other languages; Customer service experience and/or equivalent training and certification; Excellent public speaking and presentation skills with the ability to deliver verbal interpretation; Ability to work efficiently and independently with limited supervision as well as in a team environment; Ability to understand tide times and the scheduling of events in relation to natural constraints; Ability to remain composed during high-pressure situations while prioritising and remaining professional at all times; Capable of working flexible hours including most weekends, holidays and some evenings; Physically able to conduct tours.
