Project Prosauropod

Visit our virtual research lab, follow a real-life fossil dig, and help solve a 200-million-year-old mystery. Watch as researchers painstakingly remove fragile dinosaur bones from the sandstone bluffs, learn how they expose tiny fragments in the lab, keep track as the bones are re-assembled, and check out a fossilized footprint so clear you can see texture of the dinosaur’s skin!

Project Prosauropod is history in the making! In 1986, researchers announced they had discovered 100,000 pieces of fossilized bone along the shore of the Bay of Fundy just outside of Parrsboro. The discovery was the largest of its kind ever made in North America. Since then, researchers have unearthed thousands of fossils, dating back to the Triassic-Jurassic boundary period. These Parrsboro fossils provide crucial clues about what happened during this time – perhaps a mass extinction of animals.

Follow the lab’s progress as we piece together the prosauropod puzzle. Project Prosauropod will take you back in time to the days of the dinosaurs. Dig in and discover!
